When faced with the imminent demise of the 211 series E Class Mercedes, we pondered what the future would bring for hearse design.  The latest Mondeos and Vauxhalls have taken the futuristic European designs to yet an other level.  Whatever could be next??

To design a hearse for the UK funeral director, we asked what would be the key requirements?  Stature: Elegance and Presence, tempered with Practicality, Safety, Comfort and of course Cost, Not an easy task or challenge at anytime, and even more so in this time of falling death rates and recession.

Looking back in time, the passing of the Highline Hearse was very much mourned by the funeral industry.  Many to this day keep the old Daimler DS420 highline hearse for special occasions. This is almost two decades after the last of the highline hearses were built.

The new Regal DR420 is based on the latest R Class Mercedes Tourer. This large imposing model is an ideal base vehicle for the new highline hearse.  With its’ superior driving position, you sit well above any of the lowline equivalents.  Like the traditional highline hearse, the DR420 has a deck that stands 4 foot (1.2 meters) above the ground. The rise and fall deck allows the coffin / casket and flowers to be easily loaded and then raised up to be carried in this prominent position.

This imposing vehicle has all the classic lines of the traditional highline hearse, but is underpinned with the economy, safety, comfort and reliability of a state of the art Mercedes vehicle.

With the yet to be launched E class set to break the £100,000 barrier, the Regal DR420 priced at under £70k should have many funeral directors taking a closer look.
